Nice little interview with the mighty MvDP over with Wahoo. I’ve always liked him. He’s a legend, he knows it, but still seems to be a bit humble. I mean, can you imagine the pressure and status in his home country alone? With a father and grandfather both being champions of some sort themselves, he was well known from birth.
He said in the interview that he was only six when he first raced cross. That’s pretty cool. He likely won too.
So once again, he’s at a point in his career where he really wants to be XCO mtb champion. Badly. He gave it a half-assed shot last year. But really, as great as he is, as much burst power on tap, unless he dedicates the whole season, at least most of the season, to racing World Cups, I just don’t see it as more than 50/50 at best. The level currently on display, Koretzky, Blevins, Azzaro, Hatherly, Pidcock, and on and on…these racers have more than power, they have confidence.
I hope he gives it a go at least a few more times. But if he’s going to jump on his Lux a few weeks before, maybe do one World Cup, I think he will end up just like he did in 2025. But I hope I’m wrong.
