Life Time Grand Prix has done it again. Adding more rules and regulations to what started as a organization of the “loose” gravel scene. However, I think there is more than meets the eye here. First, it is of the utmost importance that we see who actually wanted this rule change. The riders! And the professionals at that. The very racers who started it, well, at least some of them, are the ones who thought it was worth a ban on drop bars for the two races that are most XC MTB in nature.
I won’t bore you with the details of the ban, all that matters is for the Leadville 100 and Big Sugar, but oddly, not Chequamegon, they will not allow drop bars. Only flat, traditional MTB handlebars.
So now what will we see? Will Kate Courtney’s scary looking fork crown grip become a thing for more and more pro’s trying to eek out a few more seconds?
At least I don’t have to worry about that. I tried a drop bar MTB last summer and hated it. Problem solved for me!
